Zamalek manager Hassan Shehata slammed talks linking him with an exit from the beleaguered Cairo club, despite not being under contract.

The former Egypt coach has yet to sign an official deal with the crisis-hit Zamalek, but insists that he will not be turning his back on the club after being linked to UAE’s Baniyas.

“I am not playing a game to run away from a club like Zamalek and manage another team,” Shehata told reporters on Saturday.

“I’ve been receiving different offers since leaving the national team and it is not new to see a club interested in my services, but I just don’t go public with it.

“My word with Zamalek is an independent contract and I have no problem with the fact that it is unofficial.

“The current board could be leaving any time, but still, Zamalek have my word under any board of directors.”

Despite his vow, it is understood that Shehata is far from happy with the board’s continuous failure to provide first-team players with their salaries; a turmoil which forced the likes of star striker Amr Zaki to file a complaint against the club.
