Mido has joined English Championship side Barnsley on a free transfer, the club said on their website.

The 29-year-old striker penned a one-year deal with the Tykes a few weeks after he was released by Zamalek.

"It's a great signing for the football club and for the profile of the Club," Barnsley manager Keith Hill said.

"I am looking forward to working with a player of exceptional talent.

"There will be plenty of work to be done and that will be a reflection of what we will see on match day. We can't wait to get going."

Barnsley, who finished only one place above the bottom three last term, will be Mido’s 11th club in Europe, although it is the first time for him to join a lower division side.

The well-travelled Egyptian played for the likes of Tottenham, Roma and Marseille, apart from three distinct spells with boyhood club Zamalek in Egypt.

Barnsley almost signed Egypt international Emad Meteb a few seasons ago, but the deal was called off after the striker had infamously played for Ahli following an agreement with the English club.
