Basel forward Mohamed Salah hopes to play alongside Emad Meteb upfront when Egypt take on Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifiers this month.

Egypt assistant manager Diaa Al-Sayed announced that 12 overseas Egyptians, including Salah, are in contention for the March 26 home tie, as the final roster have yet to be named by boss Bob Bradley.

Despite being one of Egypt’s top scorers during the past decade, Ahli forward Meteb is unlikely to be named for the crucial qualifier after losing his place in the Reds’ roster.

"I hope Emad Meteb would be included in the squad for the Zimbabwe game," Salah told FilGoal.com.

"I learnt a lot from Meteb when I played beside him in last summer's London Olympic Games. His movement usually helped me in attack.

"I think he must be given more playing time with Ahli. He always has the motive to be in his top form.

"I believe if Meteb became a regular in Ahli's attack, he will lead them to the league title and will top the league scoring charts."

Meteb, who has been part of the Egypt squad that secured three consecutive CAN titles under former coach Hassan Shehata, was one of three senior players to feature in last summer's Olympic games.

Egypt play Zimbabwe at Alexandria's Army Stadium as Bradley's men top Group G on six points from two games.
