Ahli striker Emad Meteb admits he shouldn’t be back in Egypt’s fold just because he scored a couple of goals for his club in the Champions League.

Meteb was back amongst the goals after an eight-month drought when he netted a brace for Ahli against Kenya’s Tusker this month.

However, there was no place for the 30-year-old, who spent long spells of Ahli’s season on the bench, in Egypt’s squad for the World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe.

“No one from the Egypt managing staff called me after my goals against Tusker, but I think this is normal and fair,” Meteb told Modern Sport TV.

“It is very logical I’m not included in Egypt’s squad. Not just because I scored two goals, I should be in.

“I was out of form for a long time, and so the two goals mean nothing as far as the national team is concerned.”

Meteb has been one of Egypt’s top goalscorers during the past decade, having netted over 30 goals for his nation since making his debut in 2005.

He scored Egypt’s last competitive goal in a 1-1 draw with Central African Republic last June.
