The Reds said on their website that Maher has been promoted from his job as manager of the U-19 team to become an assistant with head coach Mohamed Youssef.
The 39-year-old, who scored 10 goals for Egypt in the 1990s, will join Ahmed Ayoub for the task of assisting interim boss Youssef.
