Drogba scoops African "Golden Lion" award, Barakat sixth!

Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba won the “Golden Lion” award for the best African player organized by Moroccan Sports newspaper Al-Montakhab.

Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba won the “Golden Lion” award for the best African player organized by Moroccan Sports newspaper Al-Montakhab.

The Chelsea striker received 146 votes in the referendum that included reporters from 35 institutions in Morocco and the Arab world, including Filgoal.com.

Cameroon and Barcelona ace Samuel Eto’o was two points behind Drogba in the vote while Ghana’s Michael Essien came in third.

Ahli midfielder Mohamed Barakat made the list in sixth place after bagging only 14 points.
