Masri chairman Sayed Metwalli said that the Port-Saied based club is on the verge of hiring Tunisian coach Murad Mahjoubi as new head coach, in place of resigning manager Helmi Toulan.

Toulan parted ways with Masri last week, leaving youth coach Hossam Ghoweiba at the helm on temporary basis.

Despite Ghoweiba's success, guiding the Egyptian league strugglers to an impressive 3-1 victory over Telecom Egypt on Tuesday, the Masri board would only keep him as second man.

"We approached Tunisian coach Mahjoubi and he welcomed our bid, the deal should be finalized soon," Masri chairman Metwalli told FilGoal.com.

"Ghoweiba will remain with the club as assistant coach."

Metwalli denied reports claiming that the club is in talks with ex-Ittihad coach Mohamed Omar, who had a brief spell with the team last season.

"We had no contact with Omar because we did not forget what he has done last year," he said.

Omar surprisingly left Masri last season, moving to his former club Ittihad, much to the frustration of Masri fans and board.
