The report said that the "Latics have not given up all hope of securing the services of Egypt striker Amr Zaki."
Wigan and Zamalek have agreed a one-year loan deal worth £1.5 with a first option to sign him for £4.5m next summer. They would also pay an extra £500,000 if Zaki scored 10 goals this season.
Zamalek President Mamdouh Abbas reversed his position after a bust-up with the 25-year old striker last week.
"But Latics have kept a dialogue open with Zamalek, who could reconsider their stance," the report revealed.
Meanwhile, Steve Bruce is already considering a number of options upfront, including Everton's Andy Johnson and South American duo Daniel Arismendi and Salvador Cabanas.
