Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes said he would retire from football after two seasons.

Scholes contract with United runs out next summer and he admitted he would love to be offered a one-year extension by manager Alex Ferguson.

"How long will I go on? I'd think two years at the most," the 33-year-old Scholes was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

"I have one year left on my contract and hopefully I'll get another one but I suppose it all depends on how you're feeling and how you're playing.

"At the moment I just think two years would be about right."

Scholes spent his 15-year professional career with Manchester under Ferguson and hailed as one of United's best midfielders of all time.

He helped the Red Devils win eight Premier League titles and three FA Cup trophies.
