Egypt keeper Essam Al-Hadari has undergone a surgery after suffering a serious facial injury in Sion's 2-0 defeat to Bellinzona in the Swiss League on Saturday.

Al-Hadari sustained the damage in a collision with a Bellinzona player after 35 minutes.

The veteran goalie was immediately taken to hospital to repair the damage.

"Al-Hadari had four stitches. It is the same damage that he sustained last season with Ahli," the custodian's manager told FilGoal.com.

The 35-year-old conceded Bellinzona's opener in the 28th minute through striker Mauro Lustrinelli.

Italian defender Angelo Raso sealed the victory for Bellinzona in the 78th minute.

Sion remained in fifth place of the Swiss League table with five points.

It remains to be seen whether Al-Hadari would be able to take part in Egypt's friendly game against Sudan on August 20th.
