Hossam Hassan said there is no need to spend big to achieve good results following Masri’s surprising 2-0 victory over holders Ahli in the Egyptian League on Wednesday.

“I become unhappy whenever I see any club pay hefty fees to sign a player who subsequently doesn’t produce the goods,” Hassan told the post-match press conference.

“Masri have a limited transfer budget, but the club still managed to impress after signing three players for moderate prices.”

“We signed the players who we really needed,” Hassan, who helped Masri retain their top-flight status last season after replacing Portuguese coach Juan Alves, added.

The Port Said-based club signed Ahmed Shedid, Bahaa Ahmed and Ahmed Zaghloul in the close season.

Diminutive left-back Shedid impressed against his former club, Ahli.

He set up Mohamed Gaber for the opener in the first half before wrapping up the victory himself with six minutes remaining.
