The international midfielder joined the Cairo giants in the summer of 2004, and ever since he has been one of the Portuguese coach's favorites.
"Abou-Treika is the key player," Jose told the BBC's African sports program Fast Track. "What the other players can't do, he can do. He is fantastic player and a fantastic person."
The 62-year-old tactician is totally convinced that Abou-Treika deserved to be voted the best footballer on the Dark Continent.
"I agree with this award because for me he is the best player playing in Africa for the last five years, every year he is the best," said Jose.
The 30-year-old is the second Egyptian to win the prestigious award, as his club and international colleague Mohamed Barakat won it in 2005.
