Tottenham Hotspur have re-signed striker Robbie Keane from Liverpool, only seven months after he moved in the opposite direction, the London club said on Monday.

The Ireland striker penned a four-year deal with Spurs worth ₤12million.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the transfer of Robbie Keane back to the Club from Liverpool. Personal terms have been agreed and a medical completed," a Tottenham statement read.

Keane, who cost Liverpool ₤18million last summer, failed to deliver the goods at Anfield, and eventually went down the pecking order for manager Rafa Benitez.

The 28-year-old scored seven times for the Reds this season, including two crucial goals in the Champions League against PSV and Atletico Madrid.

Keane is the third player to be retrieved by Spurs after leaving last summer when coach Juande Ramos was in charge.

French full-back Pascal Chimbonda returned from Sunderland, whereas England striker Jermain Defoe re-joined from Portsmouth.

Difficult Decision

Keano admitted that he was wrong to leave Spurs last July as he vowed to help his struggling side in their fight against relegation this term.

"It was a difficult decision to make to leave Tottenham in the summer. It proved not to be the right move for me," he said.

"I know some Spurs fans will feel I let them down by leaving but I can assure them I shall be giving my all for this Club - this Club has terrific fans and I want to repay them for all their support.

"We've got to get on and fight our way up that league table."
