Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart reckons that his career has taken a turn for the worse since Bernd Schuster was given the sack in December.

The Dutch international hasn't regularly featured for the Spanish champions under the management of Juande Ramos, who succeeded Schuster four months ago.

The attacking midfielder put his lack of participation down to his new boss' view, but didn't comment on his future with Los Merengues.

"I believe that clearly I am the biggest loser from the departure of Schuster and then the arrival of Juande Ramos," he told De Telegraaf.

"Apparently the coach (Ramos) does not trust me and that is that."

Van der Vaart expected that Ramos would change his mind after Real's UEFA Champions League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

"I received plenty of compliments after that match. For me it was a great opportunity and satisfaction to play again. The fact I have not played after that game is very disappointing," the 26-year-old said.

"If I had the feeling that I could change things then I would speak to him, but right now I do not have many hopes.

"Besides, he sees me train every day and the truly bizarre thing is that I feel in form and coach very well at Madrid."
