Michael Owen scored his first goal for Manchester United after coming on as a substitute to hit his team's winner in a friendly game against Malaysia XI.

The game was United's first friendly as part of the club's Far East tour.

Alex Ferguson's men looked on course for an easy victory after goals from Wayne Rooney and Nani put them two goals ahead early in the game.

However, the hosts surprised the former European champions by scoring twice in each half to draw level.

Owen saved United's blushes after his cool finish from the edge of the box secured his team a 3-2 win in front of 100,000 fans in Kuala Lumpur.

The 29-year-old joined Sir Alex Ferguson's men on a free transfer after his contract with Newcastle United expired following the end of last season.
