The former Zamalek player and coach has reached an agreement with the Petroleum side, and the deal should go through after the ongoing Egyptian Cup.
Mokhtar Mokhtar, who has been Petrojet's tactician for four seasons, announced over a week ago that he would step down from his role after the Egyptian Cup too.
Under Mokhtar's management Petrojet were quite impressive over the past few years, having been consistently among the top four teams in the Egyptian Premier League.
However, their form tended to drop in the second half of the season.
On the other hand, Gaafar was highly acclaimed the past season, thanks to Gaish's commendable league campaign.
