Borussia Dortmund ace Mohamed Zidan revealed that he has been married to Stina Rohde since 2006 but opted not to announce their marriage over the past years.

The Egypt forward has always referred to the Danish blonde bombshell as his 'girlfriend', which often drew sharp criticism against him in Egypt.

After Stina gave birth to a baby boy, Adam, Zidan faced a baptism of fire as sex outside wedlock is punishable and sinful in the Arab World.

However, the 29-year-old was quick to state that he and Stina have long tied the knot, saying he always abides by the Islamic doctrine.

"I'm a devout Muslim and would never be in a relationship with a woman without marriage," he told FilGoal.com.

"It's not true that I hook up with girls as some sports websites claimed without knowing the truth.

"The fact that we didn't hold a wedding doesn't necessarily mean we didn't get married. Stina is my wife in accordance to the Islamic principles.

"We just threw a small party to celebrate our marriage in 2006. Only close friends and family attended it."

German Law

On why he was keeping his marriage a secret, Zidan said: "Pursuant to the German law, if a couple divorced, the woman would get half of the man's wealth.

"For this reason I postponed the announcement of our marriage in Germany and Egypt as well."

Last year, Zidan got engaged to Mai Ezz El-Din after allegedly breaking up with Stina.

But his engagement to the Egyptian actress was broken off in several months before he got back to his old partner.

"Two years ago me and Stina separated. Afterwards, I got engaged to Mai Ezz El-Din," the former Werder Bremen man explained.

"Me and Stina made up one year and four months ago. We have been together ever since.

"She's the mother of my child now and that's a whole different story. She will officially be my wife in Germany, not just in Egypt."
