''Karim initially agreed to join Ittihad, especially that he's a free agent and is not tied down to any club at the moment," Abou-Abda told Filgoal.com
"Negotiations are at an advanced stage, we are only yet to agree financial terms."
Should Karim's deal go through, the Alexandria-based outfit will likely dispense with Ghanaian striker Francis Akwaffo-Boateng, to make room for the former-Ismaili frontman as one of three-allowed slots for foreign players.
Karim, 22, had an arguably successful two-year stint at Ismaili where he notched an overall 22 goals for the coastal outfit between 2007 and 2009.
He has been linked with a move to Cairo giants Ahli in the January transfer window but a deal wasn't struck.
Meanwhile, Ittihad concluded their pre-season training camp at 6th of October city before resuming training next Monday.
They are set to play a friendly against Ghazl Mahalla as they prepare for their last-16 cup tie against Nasr on the 21st of this month.
