Mohamed Zidan has been engaged in a training-ground scuffle with Borussia Dortmund teammate Antonio da Silva on Monday, German media reported.

Several papers including Sport Bild and Derwesten said that a practical joke by the Brazilian Da Silva became serious until Croatian forward Ivan Perisic interfered to separate the furious duo.

Zidan and Da Silva, who are both regarded as fringe members of coach Juergen Klopp’s squad, used to play together under the latter’s management at Mainz a few years ago.

The Dortmund squad are currently camping in La Manga, Spain ahead of resuming Bundesliga action this month.

Understandably unhappy

Earlier on Monday, Zidan reiterated his frustration by the lack of first team football at Dortmund as he eyes a quick exit from Signal Iduna Park.

“Since my injury (in April 2010), I have never got a chance. Therefore I would like to leave in January rather than wait until the summer,” Zidan, whose contract ends in June, was quoted by ruhrnachrichten.

“I have no intention of spending six more months on the bench.”

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc responded to Zidan’s comments conceding that the Egyptian is ‘understandably unhappy’ and that the situation will be assessed soon.
