The Egyptian FA will learn whether this season’s Egypt Cup will be held or not within a week, depending on the orders of the interior ministry.

“The ministry will decide on the resumption of competitive activity starting with the domestic cup,” FA spokesman Azmi Megahed said.

The FA also said that the Supreme Council for Sports is in contact with authorities to get the green light over resuming competitive football.

Domestic football has been suspended since the beginning of February, which witnessed the Port-Said disaster that claimed the lives of more than 70 Ahli fans in a league game at Masri.

Authorities have been firm on their stance as they only allowed a couple of continental games to take place behind closed doors in Cairo since the infamous incident.

The FA’s suggested tournament - as an alternative to the league - is now unlikely to take place after clubs have shown little interest in playing.
