Morientes, who played for Real Madrid before heading to Liverpool in January 2005 on a £6.3 million deal, was also left out of Spain’s squad for the World Cup.

Real Betis and Espanyol were also linked with Morientes, whose contract with Valencia has yet to be revealed.
