Egyptian forward Mohamed Zidan scored to help Mainz register a 2-1 away victory over Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Zidan, who notched a hat-trick against Energie Cottbus last week, continued his impressive form after converting home a penalty kick in the 54th minute to cancel out Pal Dardai’s opener in the 22nd minute.

Leon Andreasen’s strike four minutes past the hour mark sealed the victory for Mainz who achieved another valuable step in their bid to avoid relegation.

The victory put Mainz in 11th place of the league table with 24 points, three above the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, Schalke maintained their position at the top despite throwing a two-goal lead to tie Wolfsburg 2-2.

Kevin Kuranyi notched twice in the 11th and 29th minutes but another brace from Diego Klimowicz in the 57th and 89th minutes gave Wolfsburg a share of spoils.

Schalke are in charge of the table with 49 points, six ahead of second-placed Stuttgart who thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 on Friday.
