Aluminum moved a step closer to securing top-flight safety after claiming a 2-0 home victory over Ittihad in the Egyptian League on Wednesday.

Ittihad dominated the first-half but couldn't convert their chances. Aluminum took advantage of the visitors' wastefulness to secure all three points.

Midfielder Mostafa Abbas opened the scoring three minutes after restart when he deceived Ittihad keeper Essam Mahmoud.

Mahmoud was on alert to handle an expected cross from Mostafa, who opted to shoot goalwards from a tight angle.

Ibrahim Abdul-Raheem sealed the victory just before the end with a powerful shot.

Aluminum eased their relegation worries as they moved to the 10th spot with 26 points, six clear of the relegation zone.

Ittihad's are in a critical position as they lie in 12th place on 22 points.

Either Telecom Egypt or Suez Cement, who have 20 points each, can leapfrog the Alexandria-based club when they meet each other on Thursday.
