"Real Madrid C.F. and Marcelo Vieira today signed a contract extension that will link the player and club through June 2015," the club said in a statement on their official website.

Marcelo, 21, joined Real from Brazilian side Fluminense in January 2007.

He is the only player to have started 18 games for Real this season, according to the club's website.

The Brazilian international also scored two league goals as second-placed Real aim to dethrone holders Barcelona, who are five points clear at the top.
