Arab Contractors have surprisingly sacked coach Mohamed Amer after the team suffered an embarrassing 4-1 defeat by top-flight debutants Wadi Degla in their Egyptian Premier League opener.

The club fired Amer despite keeping faith with him before the start of the season when speculation was rife that he would leave.

"I sat down with the club board members and they told me that I will no longer be the coach of Contractors," he told FilGoal.com.

Contractors considered giving Amer the axe after the team survived relegation on the final day of last season.

However, they eventually kept hold of him but their bond was so weak that it was broken after the team's first game in the new campaign.

The Mountain Wolves imposed an EGP 10 million fine on each player after the team were outplayed by a livelier Wadi Degla side.

"The club should have waited for the coming results after punishing the players," Amer added.

"I think they needed more time to assess the team's displays before making any decisions."

Amer has become the second Egyptian coach to leave his team after just one league game.

Mohsen Saleh resigned as coach of newly-promoted side Smouha following their 1-0 loss to Military Production.
