Gouna striker Gamal Hamza admitted that he intentionally earned a penalty kick in the 1-1 draw with Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League on Monday.

Former Zamalek prodigy Hamza was in area when he was felled by Mohamed Abdul-Shafi, which prompted the referee to point at the spot.

The 28-year-old converted the penalty on the half-hour mark to give Gouna the lead, before Zamalek brought the score level in the second period.

After the match, Hamza said he meant to win the penalty but assured it was well-deserved.

"I had no choice but to try to earn a penalty; I had no chance to score from my position," he told Modern TV after the match.

"I knew that Abdul-Shafi would tackle me when I outran him, and that what happened."

However, Zamalek's football director Ibrahim Hassan believes that Hamza, who has a long history of theatrical dives, tricked the referee.

"Gouna didn't threat us at all throughout the match, they wouldn't have scored if it wasn't for their underserved penalty kick," he stated.
