Zamalek chairman Galal Ibrahim denied Ahmed Refaat's claims that the club's board did not back him in the recent problem involving midfielder Hazem Emam.

In the wake of the infamous saga, Refaat was sacked by the Supreme Council of Sport on Monday, despite his earlier intention to resign.

But the former board member blamed Zamalek officials after his exit, stressing that he expected more backing from their side.

"I don’t know why Refaat has criticized me in public," Zamalek's interim president Ibrahim said.

"He speaks without knowing the truth. He doesn’t know how much effort I've done to stop his sacking decision, but I couldn’t."

Refaat, who was replaced by Abdullah George, joined the current board one month ago when Mamdouh Abbas was sacked as chairman of the club.
