Zamalek were favorites to win the Cairo derby but they could only share honors with arch rivals Ahli in a dull Egyptian Premier League affair on Thursday.

A goalless draw was a deserved result, given the inability of both teams to create any clear-cut chances throughout the full 90 minutes.

Some of Zamalek fans might be disappointed after the league leaders, who retained their six-point advantage over Ahli, failed to end their derby jinx despite the recent poor run of their opponents.

However, Zamalek coach Hossam Hassan said he was satisfied with the outcome.

"The draw is not a bad result," the Egypt's all-time leading scorer told the post-match news conference.

"Ahli are the more experienced side. They boast several veterans who won many African Cups in their careers.

"But my team lack experience. There are some youngsters who even played in the derby for the first time."

Zamalek, who eye their first league title since 2004, remain on top of the table with 31 points from 14 games.

Ismaili and ENPPI lie second and third respectively with 26 points each, one ahead of fourth-placed Ahli.
