Ahmed Elmohamady could be deployed as holding midfielder next season after he was tested in this position in a friendly.

The Egyptian international played in the heart of midfield during Sunderland's 2-1 victory of York City.

A natural right-back, Elmohamady might have difficulties to start in his favorite position after his side signed Wes Brown and John O'Shea.

Both former Manchester United players enjoy a lot of experience and can play on the right-hand side.

According to manager Steve Bruce, Elmohamady hasn't impressed in his new position. Bruce, though, is still hopeful he will get better by time.

Elmohamady, 23, has played 38 games for Sunderland in all competitions last season.
