Domestic football has been suspended indefinitely following fans riots at the FA headquarters on Saturday, spokesman Azmi Megahed said.

Hundreds of fans – for an unknown purpose so far – stormed the FA headquarters causing severe damages and a major fire inside the building.

The riot followed Saturday’s final verdict against the defendants of the Port-Said disaster, although the identity of the rioting fans has yet to be learnt.

“We have decided to suspend all football divisions indefinitely. I think this would spare many lives,” spokesman Megahed told FilGoal.com.

“I don’t know when will Egyptian football come back to life!”

The FA is expected to hold a board meeting later to confirm the decision.

The fresh Port-Said ruling sparked mixed reactions from Ahli’s ultras fans, who attacked the FA headquarters in Cairo ahead of last year’s Egyptian Super Cup game.

Some members of the Ultras Ahlawy group believe the ruling is fair, while others are protesting against the release of many police seniors.

Meanwhile, the reaction from Port-Said has been normal so far.
