Zamalek are facing a race against time to have captain and goalkeeper Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed fit by the start of the Egyptian league playoffs.

Abdul-Wahed fractured a bone in his ribs during Egypt’s build up to the World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe, ruling him out for three weeks.

It means that the 35-year-old is a major doubt for Zamalek’s opening game in the league playoffs against Ismaili on June 29.

“We don’t have much time. Zamalek are braced for some important events, so we will have to fight to get Abdul-Wahed back to full fitness,” Zamalek doctor Mostafa Al-Monayeri told FilGoal.com.

“He is an integral part of our team and thus we will do our best to have him fit before the three weeks that the Egypt medical staff has set for his return.”

Abdul-Wahed was expected to retain his place in goal against Zimbabwe, but had to make way for Ahli’s Sherif Ekrami in Egypt’s 4-2 win.

The 36-year-old is definitely out of next week’s clash against Mozambique in Maputo as Ekrami is set to keep his place between the posts.
