Ahli have suspended Essam Al-Hadari for three weeks and handed him an EGP 250,000 fine for making an illegitimate move to Swiss side Sion before eventually returning to the club.

The Egypt keeper tried to join Sion without the club's approval as to fulfill his dream of playing in Europe.

He initially thought that article 17 of FIFA rules would allow him complete the transfer without problems, but his hopes demolished.

After learning that his legal stance is not that good, Al-Hadari decided to return to the club where he made his reputation.

But his return was not enough for Ahli to become lenient with him.

"The player did not care whether his absence will affect Ahli in local and African competitions," the Red Devils said in a statement late on Friday.

"The registration period is already over, so we didn't have the chance to sign a replacement.

"The player kept on accusing the club of failing to fulfill their promises towards him. He never denied that he said those things."
