Center-half Ahmed Al-Sayed has ended a long spell with Ahli after turning down a contract extension offer from the club.
The 31-year-old, who captained Ahli several times over the past two seasons, ran out of contract this summer and Ahli’s new one-year-deal didn’t seem enough for him to stay.
“Our EGP 1.25million per year offer was not enough for Al-Sayed, so he chose to sign for another club,” Ahli football director Sayed Abdul-Hafiz told FilGoal.com.
“We wish him good luck. He served Ahli for several years.”
Al-Sayed, who is one of few Ahli players who came through the club’s youth ranks, enjoyed winning a host of trophies with the Reds during the past decade.
However, he was criticized by fans and pundits in recent months, with speculation that new coach Hossam Al-Badri is willing to offload him.
