VIDEO: Salah helps Basel reach EL semis

Mohamed Salah scored for Basel as the Swiss champions edged Tottenham on penalties to qualify for the Europa League semi-finals.

A thrilling encounter at St. Jakob Park saw Spurs take a 24th minute lead through Clint Dempsey, but the in-form Salah slid home to level on 27 minutes.

Aleksandar Dragovic gave Basel the lead after half time but USA star Dempsey leveled again eight minutes from the end.

In penalties, Basel made no mistake from the spot as Tom Huddlestone and Emmanuel Adebayor missed for Tottenham to send the Swiss side into the last four.

It is the first time ever for Basel to reach the semi-finals of a European club competition.

Murat Yakins side will meet European champions Chelsea for a place in the final, while Benfica and Fenerbahce play in the other semi-final.

Egyptian duo impress again

Like he did in the first leg, Salah proved to be Basels main source of danger as he scored the first goal after a magnificent interception in midfield by Mohamed Al-Nenni, who dispossessed Moussa Dembele to start the attack.

Seven minutes into extra time, Al-Nenni almost scored a cracking goal but his superb effort hit the post from over 25 yards out.

In the 111th minute, Salah earned a standing ovation from the home fans when he made way for veteran Alexander Frei.
